Internship Work
DeVoe L. Moore Center @ Florida State University
The DeVoe L. Moore Center is a public policy research institute, or “think tank” involved in examining market-oriented solutions to pressing social problems on the state and local level in Florida. The center focuses on areas such as regulation, land use and urban development, entrepreneurship, government accountability and transparency, and economic development.
These three samples of writing are published articles I wrote during my internship the at the DeVoe L. Moore Center at Florida State University. I was assigned to the social entrepreneurship group and I was tasked with researching and writing about social enterprises that peaked my interest. My objectives were to write about their impact in the marketplace and in society. I wrote about social enterprises that focused on philanthropy, education, and corporate responsibility
These two extensive reports highlight key features of the DeVoe L. Moore Center in terms of its impact and purpose as a think thank. My internship director appointed me with the task of writing these reports for publication to inform general audiences and FSU students about the center's mission and values.
These two samples of writing are the first and last drafts of a newsletter I composed using Microsoft Publisher. The DeVoe L. Moore Center releases newsletters every semester and I was a contributing writer for the Spring 2019 semester. My tasks were to write, design, and edit content.
This piece of text is a detailed and structured overview of what was outdated on the DeVoe L. Moore Center website and the changes I identified that needed to be made.
The personal biographies of several interns needed updating on the DeVoe L. Moore Center website and this document showcases my writing for those biographies.
This document is a digital copy of a contact page design I created to replace the old contact page of the DeVoe L. Moore Center website. My internship director sought the need to create a refreshed and modern-looking contact page for the website and this is my finished product design.
This document highlights my experience and professional development for the internship program I started as a staff writer. In the report, I talk about what I learned and what I could have improved upon, including the skills I required.
“My internship experience at the DeVoe L. Moore Center helped me improve my research and writing skills. As an Editing, Writing, and Media major, I was given the role of staff writer for the social entrepreneurship group, I learned about different social enterprises and researched their impact in the marketplace as well as their impact on society. I received mentorship under a blog manager and I learned the process of editing blog articles for publication. I also received guidance and recommendations on my work from Dr. Staley, he played a vital role in shaping my writing and thought processes. My work consisted of writing articles, newsletters and reports, all of which gave me material to build a strong portfolio.”

Apprenticeship Work
Miami Dade College
The article above is a piece I published on the student forums section of The Reporter, the official student newspaper of Miami Dade College. It was an early piece I wrote on career choice, being a student, and how an Orchestra Director told me his story of how he was on the road to being a millionaire with a company he was running but how music ended up being his ultimate passion. His insight and wisdom was paramount in shaping the direction of my studies and future aspirations.
